 Kinesics ( 人體動作學 ): The study of body movement and gesture 2 Hand to face (mouth, nose, mustache) movement Open, outward movements vs. limited, closer to body movements Manipulation of clothing (buttons, collars, ties)

 Proxemics ( 空間關係 ): The distance between persons Moving away from the interviewer Erect “signal blunter” ( 不言而喻的信號 ) (holding a file folder or purse in the lap as a barrier) 3

 Paralanguage ( 副語言 ) : Pitch ( 音調高低 ), tone ( 音 色 ), onset ( 開始 ), and duration Slower onset and longer answers Raised pitch 4

 Conservative two-piece business suit (Black or solid dark blue is best) watch out for wrinkled lapels ( 西服上的翻領 ) 100% wool is best, at least 45% 5

 Conservative long-sleeved shirts Never wear short sleeves White is best, solid pastel ( 淡色 / 粉色 ) is next best 100% cotton or 65% polyester/ 35 % cotton Looked intelligent, honest, and successful same for women 6

7  Silk neckties with conservative pattern (keep in mind the 2- pattern rule)  The tip of your tie should over your belt buckle

 For two-button suits Never button your bottom button  For three-button suits See illustration on the right 8

9  The cuff of your shirt should extend about ½ inch (1.2cm) beyond your jacket sleeve  Empty pockets, no bulges or tinkling coins

 Dark polished shoes (lace-ups are best) Match your belt  Dark (and matching) socks Definitely NO white or light-colored (cotton) socks 10

 Carry a good pen, business card holder ( 名片 夾 ), and leather briefcase (avoid animal-grain textures 動物皮紋材質 or vinyl); same for women  No rings other than wedding ring  No earrings  No cologne 11

 Wear a two-piece suit, dark solids (such as black/dark blue) are better than pastels or prints  Minimal use of makeup  Conservative hosiery near skin color 13

 Length of you skirts should be knee-high or within 1 inch above your knee  Wearing paints could be a good idea in case you will be shown around the office 14

 Wrap-around shoes (heels no higher than 2 ½ inches)  No purses, carry a briefcase instead  Clean and neat fingernails with a natural- or light-colored nail polish 15

16  Hair should be pulled back out of your face  No perfume/cologne  Avoid dangling earrings, one set only  No more than one ring on each hand  Try to find out what the employees wear in your future office

17  Be on time  Talk with the receptionist politely  Pay attention to the timing and firmness ( 時機與力道 ) of handshakes  Need to have some ideas about the sitting arrangement ( 座位的 安排 ), ask when in doubt

 Treat interviewer’s business card with care  Sit in the middle of the chair, don’t crouch ( 彎腰駝 背 )  Keep eye contact 18

 While sitting, men should cross legs ( 翹腿 ) at the knee ( 膝蓋 ), women cross their ankles ( 腳 踝 ), knees together 19

20  Reframe from touching your face, mouth, nose  Pay attention to the questions  Think before answer PTS: Pause, Think, Speak

21  Turn off you cellular phone  Don’t hesitate to take notes  Don’t hide your positive emotion

22  At the end of the interview, remember to collect all the materials given to you during the interview

 Don’t forget to say good- bye to the receptionist/secretary on your way out  Be sure to send a thank-you note/ afterwards 23
