Homework  Students need to read 15 minutes each night Students can read independently, read with a buddy, or be read to.  Math fact practice ( Use flashcards, verbal drills, worksheet generator, and games.)  Sight word practice Use flashcards, verbal drills, worksheet generator, and games.  Please sign your child’s planner every night! *Any additional homework will be sent home in Thursday Folders.

The website also includes ideas on how to read with your child, sight words and math facts, classroom news, book order information, and much more! Snacks and Birthdays  Please send two healthy, simple, and non-messy snacks with your child everyday! Students are given time to eat their snack in the morning and in the afternoon. Due to the many allergies in our classroom, I will not be providing snack during the day. Please send a water bottle with your child everyday. Water bottles should be filled with only water and sent to school full everyday.  You may send in a treat of your choice for your child’s birthday. Allergy kids will need a bag of his/her favorite treat for such occasions. If you would like to send in an alternative to a treat, you may. This can include pencils, erasers, bookmarks, etc. There are 25 students in our class.

Classroom Management  Positive Discipline: (based on the work of Alfred Adler and Rudolf Dreikurs) could be called an “encouragement model” for classroom management. It is a program designed to teach young people to become responsible, respectful and resourceful members of their communities.  No rewards/punishments, focus on solving problems.  Selective Seating

I will ask for classroom volunteers in October.  Mystery Reader program will launch in October.  Scholastic book orders: Please complete all orders online using our class code: ND88B  Thursday Folders: Folders will be sent home every Thursday. Graded papers and other pertinent information will be sent home in these folders. Please remove all student work and return folders on Friday.  Attendance: Please to excuse your child’s absence. HOW PARENTS CAN HELP THEIR CHILD SUCCEED  Send to school a well rested child, dressed for the weather.  Check backpacks daily. Check the Thursday folder every week and remove graded work and information.  Check planner everyday.  Check my website every Monday for ideas, homework, and what your child will be learning that week.  Help your child study their sight words every week.  Help your child memorize the addition and subtraction math facts.  Have your child read nighty and talk to them nightly about what they are reading ( 5 finger retell).  Consider buying your child a watch with hour and minute hands.  Give your child many “real life” experiences counting money. Practice counting by 2’s, 5’s and 10’s.  Send a full water bottle and two healthy snacks to school daily.  Contact me anytime with questions or concerns you may have.
