WHY DO PEOPLE FOLLOW LEADERS? Gallup – 2005/6 survey of 10,000+ adults within the US asking them to identify a leader who has had the most positive influence on their daily life and use 3 words to describe what the person contributed. Primary results were:  Trust (integrity, honesty, respect)  Compassion (caring, friendship, happiness)  Stability (security, strength, support, peace)  Hope (direction, faith, guidance) In other words people move towards (follow) leaders who create a safe space for them to achieve, flourish and feel #WiTNP

They:  Guide and encourage others through troubled waters  Shine a light in the dark places so people can grow and flourish  Provide stability no matter how rough the weather  Scan the horizon for pitfalls and potential Inspiring Leaders are A Beacon of #WiTNP

Impact  They model the way for others through their own integrity and consistent action  Communicate the destination clearly  Course correct to keep on track and adapt to changing circumstances Inspiring Leaders Show the Way  Values provide a strong internal compass to guide their actions and #WiTNP

Inspiring Leaders – Dance!  People are messy… go with it.  Leadership is not science … its about understanding and releasing potential in people and they are as random as they are unique.  To be effective, they have to get out of the way … manage better not more, remove barriers and allow people to play to their strengths rather than fixating on weakness. They understand #WiTNP
