The Real-Time Neutron Monitor Database Christian T. Steigies (2), Karl-Ludwig Klein & Nicolas Fuller (1), on behalf of the NMDB team (1) Christian-Albrechts Universität Kiel (2) Observatoire de Paris, Meudon

Neutron monitors: state-of-the-art instruments for cosmic ray nucleon detection at GeV energies Primary cosmic ray (proton, ion or solar neutron, E>450 MeV): air shower neutron production in the Pb material surrrounding the counters Detected signal depends on geomagnetic cutoff & anisotropy of the primary nucleons.

NMDB project: goals upgrade stations and connections to make high-resolution NM data available in real-time build state of the art, centralised database with distributed mirrors (MySQL) collect high-resolution NM data in real-time, make it publicly available in a common format develop application tools using NM data (solar energetic particle event alert, dosimetry calculations, cosmic ray characteristics outside the geomagnetosphere, at the top and inside the Earth's atmosphere)‏ create a public outreach website to inform about cosmic rays and possible effects on humans, technological systems, and environment
