Task Category 1 Provide Direction for Task Selection 9/2/2016 OFFICE OF SUPERINTENDENT OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION 5

Getting Started: Select All Tasks Upfront All student selections are made BEFORE access to the system opens to the student. Once made, student selections are set for the collection. Teachers should review available information to ensure the appropriate selection of tasks is made. Students only work on and/or view those tasks that they have selected. Students have an opportunity with this inclusion bank to submit four different collections. An original collection and up to three subsequent collections if they do not meet proficiency. 9/2/2016 OFFICE OF SUPERINTENDENT OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION 6

Teacher’s Role During and/or between assessment opportunities in the school year, teachers may NOT, in any way, make specific comments on student answers or direct students to change COE answers. This would include, but is not limited to: Making answers or answer keys available to students. Changing student responses. Providing feedback specific to a student response. Teachers are not to provide any specific feedback about a particular response a student has made in this assessment. Please review all policies prior to preparing to teach the COE. These can be found at: 9/2/2016 OFFICE OF SUPERINTENDENT OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION 13

Student ‘Tools’ Students have access to an equation editor for every problem on the Mathematics COE. Students can simply write text in the box OR the student can use the editor to write various math symbols including those needed to write equations, inequalities, functions, fractions, subscripts, and superscripts. Students may also have access to a calculator as they do on the end-of-course assessments as long as the calculator meets the guidelines found on the OSPI website found at: Students can and should use a ruler when drawing linear graphs. 9/2/2016 OFFICE OF SUPERINTENDENT OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION 14

The following instructional tasks can be found on the Moodle: Creatures from Beyond 1A Running for Fun 1C Usain Bolt 1D Summer Sightseeing 2B Classic Car 3B Movie Theatres 4A Each of these instructional tasks addresses the same standards as those found in the inclusion bank. Often the standards include more than can be assessed in a particular question. Students should be taught the complete standard even if only part is asked in a question. Mathematics COE Instructional Tasks 9/2/2016 OFFICE OF SUPERINTENDENT OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION 21

Instructional Materials Task ready for student use – Blank task that students can work on. Instructional tasks are templated like inclusion bank tasks to include five questions with standards and claims to match any task in the same group and version. Student exemplar – An expected student response that would earn full credit (all points) on the task specific rubric. Task-specific rubric – A rubric developed for the instructional tasks detailing how trained scorers will assign points to student responses. 9/2/2016 OFFICE OF SUPERINTENDENT OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION 22
