Acts 2:36–41

Acts 2:36–41 (ESV) “Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.” 37 Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” 38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

39 For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” 40 And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.” 41 So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.”

Five Key Questions about Baptism 1.Why should I be baptized?

Why should I be baptized? 1)To FOLLOW Jesus’ example

Matthew 3:16–17 (ESV) “And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; 17 and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”

Why should I be baptized? 1)To FOLLOW Jesus’ example 2)To OBEY Jesus’ command

Matthew 28:19 (ESV) “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”

Why should I be baptized? 1)To FOLLOW Jesus’ example 2)To OBEY Jesus’ command 3)To UNITE with the family of God

Ephesians 4:4–6 (ESV) “There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.”

Five Key Questions about Baptism 1.Why should I be baptized? 2.What is the meaning of baptism?

What is the meaning of baptism? 1)It is a CELEBRATION of the grace of Christ

Colossians 2:12–15 (ESV) “Having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead. 13 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. 15 He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.”

What is the meaning of baptism? 1)It is a CELEBRATION of the grace of Christ 2)It is an ILLUMINATION of the gospel of Christ

Romans 6:4 (ESV) “We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.”

What is the meaning of baptism? 1)It is a CELEBRATION of the grace of Christ 2)It is an ILLUMINATION of the gospel of Christ 3)It is a PROCLAMATION of the glory of Christ

1 Peter 3:15–22 (ESV) “In your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, 16 having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame. 17 For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God’s will, than for doing evil.

18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, 19 in which he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison, 20 because they formerly did not obey, when God’s patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water.

21 Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22 who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers having been subjected to him.”

Five Key Questions about Baptism 1.Why should I be baptized? 2.What is the meaning of baptism? 3.How should I be baptized?

Acts 8:36–38 (ESV) “And as they were going along the road they came to some water, and the eunuch said, “See, here is water! What prevents me from being baptized?” 38 And he commanded the chariot to stop, and they both went down into the water, Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him.”

Five Key Questions about Baptism 1.Why should I be baptized? 2.What is the meaning of baptism? 3.How should I be baptized? 4.Who should be baptized?

Acts 2:38 (ESV) “And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

Five Key Questions about Baptism 1.Why should I be baptized? 2.What is the meaning of baptism? 3.How should I be baptized 4.Who should be baptized? 5.When should I be baptized?
