Plants  Red Maple Tree  Lady’s slippers  White spruce tree  Red maple flower  Broad leaf  Deciduous tree

Animals Red fox Wolf spider Female black bear Gray tree frog Box turtle Fawn Young bobcat Raccoon Barred owl

Decomposers  Fungi  Bacteria  Lichen  Slime mold  Peziza cup fungus  Coprinus fungus

Food Chain  Green plants use the sun’s energy to make food. They use photosynthesis.  The sun gives energy to the plants. They use some of the energy they from the sun and store the rest.  The herbivore eats the plants to get their energy. The herbivore receives less of the sun’s energy then the plants received.  When the carnivore eats the herbivore, energy is passed to the carnivore through the plants and then the herbivores. The carnivore gets less of the sun’s energy then the herbivore got.

Natural change  The natural change in the forest would be a forest fire because the trees are almost really dry so they could set on fire really easily. That would mean the animals have no shelter, water or food.

Human effect  The human effect would be that if we cut down trees and build cabins, shopping malls, and factory’s then the pollution would grow increasingly and kill the animals, their would also be no shelter.

Adaptations  Migration is when all birds fly south for the winter.  Hibernation is when bears and other animals sleep all winter until spring comes.  Food storage is when squirrels put nuts away for the winter so they can survive.  Decomposition is when fungi and other decomposers break down the dead things like a dead tree to survive because if they didn’t then they would die.

Endangered/threatened animals  The bald eagle is an endangered animal because of the hunters and the forest fires lately.

Facts  If the lichen is really old then it will be orange.  A ponderosa pine tree has orange bark and smells like vanilla.  In the Sandia mountains we saw a cougar eat a skunk.  We saw a ringtail at a spring that was dried up.  We saw a limestone rock with a oak leaf in the rock.

Quiz  What kind of plants are in the forest?  What animal in the forest has stripes on it’s tail?  What is one decomposer in the forest?
