E NDANGERED S PECIES What is are endangered species? a kind of animal or plant that is thought to be in danger of becoming extinct.

E XTINCT What is an extinct species? an animal or plant that no longer exists.

A LLIGATORS Why did alligators almost become extinct? Are they still endangered? No! After 1967 a law was passed that made it illegal to hunt alligators. By 1987, alligators had made a comeback, and are no longer endangered.
