Final Assignment You are to design a five-hour semi-structured media education workshop targeted or a specific audience of choice. Topics are to be negotiated, but they must address the broad field of children, learning and the media. If you are working in groups, the length of the project is slightly longer - so for groups of two, an 8-hour
Final Assignment: Elements A rationale for the project which includes an examination of the research on your stated theme. This should be footnoted (roughly 4-5 pages), but this will depend on the nature of your project so please be sure to speak with Stuart to make sure you are adequately researching your area. A detailed description (2 pages) of your audience (incl. age, likely relationship with your research topic, SES, gender, ethnicity) and any specific challenges posed by them. A description of the visual, audio or other resources you will use in the workshop/curriculum package, including film summaries, etc.
Final Assignment - Media Resource You are to integrate the use of one resource - either a podcast, an IMovie produced mash-up, or a set of Photoshop resources as part of your media education workshop This might include: a resource that is an example of an activity you want your audience to create a resource meant to provoke your audience to engage critically with the media a resource meant to allow them to think about their media environments in a new way.
Final Assignment: Workshop/Curriculum Besides the rationale and audience description, your projects will also include: A clear description of the workshop program, including: Objectives - What are the specific learning aims you want to achieve? Provide at least three goals. Program Materials - i.e., lectures, activities, supporting, work sheets) All supporting materials necessary to make your program a success. Student-created media - i.e., a podcast, video mash- up or set of Photoshop resources.
