Each table group is a university:  A. Read each essay  B. Annotate a little, name the essay.  C. Accept or reject into your prestigious university.  Homework? Yes. Read the rest of essays on line and annotate so your group can finish quickly on Wednesday.

Finish: Evaluation of college letters:  B. Discuss for individual points  C. Turn in group work- be sure you review direction sheet so you get full credit.  C. English 12- 9/17 “A” Day  Objective: Students will demonstrate their understanding of the “personal, informal, narrative or college writing essay by drafting, and determining a narrow focus.  Task # 1 Complete brainstorming sheet.  Task # 2 Draft- at least 300 words today.  -Get stamped when finished.  Task # 3 Work on a good hook. Get stamp for approved hook.  Draft # 1 is due Monday.

English 12: 9/17/15 “A” Day  Objective: Students demonstrate their understanding of the characteristics of an informal essay by writing a personal essay or college letter.  Task 1: Complete brainstorming sheet.  Task 2: Get Hook approved.  Task 3: Draft 300 words.  Task 4: Make a stamp sheet with labels.  ** 3 stamps are available today.  First draft due date: Monday, or Tuesday,9/21- 9/22. Bring 2 copies of a draft which is words in length.

Salinger and characteristics of exposition of The Catcher in the Rye in order to understand contemporary motifs and patterns of the 1950’s.  Warm up: Write on identity photograph- 50 words of concision.  Turn in Alexie timed/quick write.  Task 1: Salinger background.  Task 2: Exposition of Catcher.  Task 3: 2 pre-reading activities.  Task 4: Read first few pages together.

English 12: Wednesday,10/21  Objective: Students will review their own self- assessment of their personality activity in order to be able to observe Holden with a bigger lens.  Warm up # 1: see docu-camera.  Task 1: Partner interview.- 7 personality questions.  A. follow up discussion.  Task 2: Read selected parts and discuss Salinger's style, tone and motifs. Students keep log.  Task 3: Watch more of Salinger documentary. Take notes on background information regarding author.  HW: CH 9 by Friday. Quiz.

English 12: “B” “A” Day- 10/23/26  Objective: Students will discuss exposition, Holden as a protagonist and narrator in order to understand Salinger’s initial purpose in character development.  Task 1: Warm up # 7- Discuss protagonist and character development.  Task 2: Review quote journal.  Task 3: Group review activity for Chapters 1-9.  Task 4: Quick reading quiz on first two reading sections. English 12: “A” day-Thursday, October 30  Objective: Students analyze Anne Trubek’s essay challenging the notion that kids should be reading Catcher in HS.  Task1: Complete warm up and briefly share.  Task 2: 2o minute Debate on Trubek’s essay, evidence, effectiveness-participation points.  Task 3: Check claims, and work on rough draft of analysis paragraphs  Task 4: Discuss passages from chapter 16/17 and leveled questions.  HW: Keep reading, turn in paragraph analysis with claim next Monday-typed.

English 12: Friday, 10/30  Objective: Students analyze Anne Trubek’s essay challenging the notion that kids should be reading Catcher in HS.  Task1: Complete warm up and briefly share.  Task 3: Go to Journalism Lab to write analysis of Trubek’s article with claim.  Task 4: Write analysis of Catcher pages 121 and 133.  A. One paragraph per scene: One quote per paragraph. Try to notice Holden’s change in thinking.  HW: Keep reading, turn in paragraph analysis with claim and pages today or worst case next Tuesday- typed.  Have a great Halloween!

English 12: Wednesday/Thursday 11/4/5/15  Objective: Student’s will discuss chapters plus the film in order to understand the shift in tone, and motifs regarding Holden’s character development.  Task 1: Keep watching a bit more of Salinger documentary and add to your notes.(15)  Task 2: Discuss in 3 small groups- 5 topics.  -I will be walking around and grading your participation  -Task 3: Finish book by Friday.  -Task 4: Next photo due next Wednesday. Take a photo of someone who might resemble “Holden” Interview them and write 100 words.

English 12: Friday/ Monday- 11/6/15 and 11/9/15  Objective: Students analyze the novel’s end and also review key symbols that the novel offers to consider.  Task 1 : Discuss for individual points CH 24,25,26.  Task 2: Discuss the legacy of the novel.  Task 3: Symbol making.  Next class: Paper assigned and watch The Graduate. Warm ups are due and turn in level questions.  Humans of Liberty assignment discussed on Thursday. Submit by Wednesday however.
