Grading with Rubrics in Google Classroom 1. Install the “Goobric for Students” Chrome extension: goo.gl/bSv7fF 2. Join our Classroom: 5xona9m 3. Complete the Short Write assignment

By the end of this session, you will be able to… Identify at least two tools for grading Classroom assignments using a rubric Set up and use the Doctopus Add-On for Google Sheets Set up and use the Goobric Extension to grade a Google Classroom assignment.

Assumptions 1.You’re using Google Chrome. 2.You’re using Google Classroom for assignments. 3.You created and gave an assignment using “Make a Copy for Each Student.”

I use Google Classroom because it… provides one space for announcements, resources, and assignments automagically creates individual documents for students is user-friendly, mobile-friendly, and third-party friendly integrates smoothly with Google Apps (Docs, Forms, etc.)

Features added in the last year: Move posts to the top Reuse posts Ask & answer a question Google Calendar integration “Share to Classroom” Chrome button Google Form integration Drafting posts Polling students Scheduling posts

Rubric Tools You Can Try 1.Orange SliceOrange Slice 1.Pros: Classroom integration, rubric on Doc, flexible 2.Cons: doesn’t move between Docs (slow), not pretty 2.JoeZoo ExpressJoeZoo Express 1.Pros: Classroom integration, rubric on Doc, multiple tools, pretty 2.Cons: doesn’t move between Docs (slow) 3.Google FormsGoogle Forms 1.Pros: flexible, ease of use, use with paper, spreadsheet = Add-Ons = Power 2.Cons: no Classroom integration, no rubric on Doc 4.Doctopus & GoobricDoctopus & Goobric 1.Pros: moves between Docs, rubric on Doc (and ), ease of use (grading) 2.Cons: ease of use (setup), not very pretty

Why Doctopus & Goobric 1.Rubrics give students clear and concise feedback on their work, allowing them to improve and teachers to adapt instruction. 2.Google Docs is a consistent, reliable platform that encourages revision, collaboration, and feedback. 3.Goobric uses an interface that moves me from one student doc to the next when I submit a grade. 4.Goobric’s interface works great on a touch screen (NOT mobile) 5.Goobric for Students allows students to self-assess and peer-assess
