Objectives Preparation for test May 1 – and SATII (May 6, June 3 for Juniors, fall for seniors) Replaces or prepares you extremely well for College Chemistry Understand the basics of chemistry so you can – Understand news/current events – Vote with confidence – Make knowledgeable decisions about food, medicine, purchases, transportation… – Be prepared for Biology etc. – Continue down the road to becoming a chemist! Apply the scientific method

Book Zumdahl Chemistry, 9 th edition Don’t bring to class unless asked (we have classroom copies) READ IT!!!!

Course Structure Elevenish units of 1-2 chapters One unit every 1.5 – 2.5 weeks – MC test and OE quiz to go with each unit Finish new material near end of March to allow time for review 25% of classroom time spent on labs, both large and small

Classwork Work on the hard parts together Experience and discover chemistry in the lab Minimize homework time!

Materials to help you Online – In Google Classroom: Unit notes, tips – Google Calendar of test and lab dates – Cengage website, AP Central, ChemFiesta, ChemistryNate We’ll see how it goes, hopefully through Google Classroom – Slide notes – Practice tests and quizzes

Homework Preassignments – Review material learned during Chem Honors – Usually due 2nd day of new unit OWL – Due as noted in OWL. There’s one for every unit! Lab Reports – Typically due one cycle later

Grading All assignments graded on scale Weighted average of: – Homework (x1) – Quizzes (x2) – Tests (x6) – Separate labs and smaller assignments (x1-x3)

Extra Help I am available to provide extra help most days in 208 after school except Fridays or days where there are meeting conflicts. Let me know ahead of time so I will be in 208 rather than working elsewhere in the building. First half of lunch on Days 1 and 4 Second half of lunch on Days 2 and 3 Other periods as dictated by duty schedule
