A LOT OF DEVELOPMENT IN VSL GROUPS CAN BE ACHIEVED THROUGH LOBBYING /advocacy Objectives 1.Understand the impact of lobbing 2.Identify issues that could be handled through lobbying 3.Design and implement a lobbying/advocacy exercise 4.Understand that a lot of development can be achieved through lobbying and advocacy What is lobbying -Representation of interest or problem to particular area to public authorities -It focuses on improving the condition of the group

A LOT OF DEVELOPMENT IN VSL GROUPS CAN BE ACHIEVED THROUGH LOBBYING /advocacy What is advocacy -Representation of an individual group member to get their rights from the public authorities What VSL group should lobby for -Deaf rights to services -Getting government tenders -Funds requirement be dead or persons with disability friendly -Legal framework

A LOT OF DEVELOPMENT IN VSL GROUPS CAN BE ACHIEVED THROUGH LOBBYING /advocacy Effective lobbying -Identifying the problems -Analyzing the problem -Analyzing causes and effects -Suggestions of solution -Identifying the authority in charge Implementing a lobby action -Create awareness of the existing problem to the authorities -Approach the relevant authority with the complaint -Allow time for respond from the authorities -Mobilize people affected by the problem to increase numbers

A LOT OF DEVELOPMENT IN VSL GROUPS CAN BE ACHIEVED THROUGH LOBBYING /advocacy Implementing a lobby action -Make unlimited follows up -Stage a formal protest when ther is no respond -Total lack of respond call for mass action as demonstration Note -Lobbying and advocacy are long term processes and should be followed patiently and persistently for result and success to be achieved

A LOT OF DEVELOPMENT IN VSL GROUPS CAN BE ACHIEVED THROUGH LOBBYING /advocacy Examples -lobbing for increased employment of deaf in government authorities and top sits -Lobbying to hve the duty scraped for deaf businesses Network -Every VSL group requires rules to regulate its activities or even the conduct of members -The network is governed by rules in which every member is expected to comply with either written or unwritten
