Receive Then the Spirit led Jesus into the desert to be tempted by the Devil. After spending forty days and nights without food, Jesus was hungry. Then the Devil came to him and said, "If you are God's Son, order these stones to turn into bread." Engage Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent. Lent is the forty days (excluding Sundays) which come between Ash Wednesday and Easter, traditionally a time of fasting, prayer and almsgiving (giving money). In Lent many people make sacrifices to focus on the sacrifice that Jesus made for us.

Sometimes we talk about people who have made the “ultimate sacrifice” — what does this mean? Activity suggestion … Talk about what you have given up / taken on for Lent… and why you have done this.
Respond Holy God, our lives are laid open before you: rescue us from the chaos of sin and through the death of your Son bring us healing and make us whole in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
