Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Melt the remains of a lipstick together with a small pot of lip balm - makes a great lip gloss! Create ice blocks for your esky - fill up old milk cartons with water and freeze them. Make your own gift wrap! Wrap your presents in the comic pages from your local Sunday newspaper, magazines or comics. Kids (and even adults) love it!

Recycling effects the environment because it takes resources that we have already taken from the land and reuses them. If we didn't reuse these products then we would be taking even more from the environment. By recycling, it cuts down the amount we take. 1 ton of recycled paper saves 17 trees from being cut down. That doesn't seem like a lot but in a year it would save 6,205 trees! So it adds up. 1 ton of recycled paper saves 17 trees from being cut down. Reusing items decreases the use of matter and energy resources and reduces pollution and natural capital degradation, recicleying does so to a lesser degree.Reusing items decreases the use of matter and energy resources and reduces pollution and natural capital degradation, recicleying does so to a lesser degree.

In Romania, we have started using these bins a few years ago.

Study your local recycling options. Your city administration can provide you with guidelines and tell you where to obtain a recycling bin for curbside recycling. Gather and prepare your recyclables. Set up separate bins in your home or garage that will help you sort items ahead of pickup day. Create reminders around the home. Mark your weekly recycling day on a calendar hung in a prominent spot where you are sure to see it. Eventually, you will know the right day as you create a new habit. Take action and make recycling fun. Make recycling a family pastime, enlisting everyone to consider if something could be recycled instead of thrown away. Talk and share about recycling. Discuss the benefits of recycling which include helping the environment and cutting down on your household garbage volume. Help all family members become familiar with the various classes of recyclables, including the various numbers on plastics.
