Parent Handbook Please keep this booklet in convenient location as a reference for the school year. It is filled with very useful information!

Parent Access ALL parents need to create an account through the CISD website. Sign the Parent Handbook Please set it to alert you of all grades (<100)

Daily Routine We have a set routine each day as the students enter the room. Unpack Write in his/her David Planner Warm Ups Switch and begin Instruction at 8:15. There are lots of visuals throughout the room to let students know what they should be doing.

Absences/Tardies/Early Release Work is made up in study hall upon your child’s return Remind your child about their make up work to help them be responsible about it. Some activities/instruction can’t be duplicated Attendance is important, but so is your child’s health Please communicate about absences or appointments as soon as possible

Math Instruction Daily Math Review – 7/8 days of the same four concepts and then there will be a quiz for a daily grade Guided Math – Known to the students as “Rotations” This is where I teach the students the lesson in a small group, while the others do activities that support what we are learning. Whole Group Group Work Fact Practice

Math Resources We use a variety of resources so that we can best teach each concept. We use: Textbooks Worksheets Websites Teacher created materials In your child’s UFO, they now have a section to keep all current math papers. Graded math papers, daily work, etc. should stay in the pocket until after that unit’s test. These papers will be useful in reviewing for tests. Some activities may not be finished, so those are things that you can work on at home.

Math Homework Tuesdays and Thursdays are Math Homework nights. One day will be fact practice and the other will be a worksheet or activity to reinforce what we are teaching or have taught. Math homework will be averaged together for one daily grade each grading period. Ideas for fact practice would be: Flashcards Apps Worksheets Songs Dice Fact War Roll 6

Science The main resource your student will have is his/her Interactive Science Notebook “ISN”. WE USE IT EVERYDAY!!! All our activities and materials will be placed in the ISN. It can come home any night, but it needs to be returned the next day. It is what will need to be studied when preparing for a test. NO Science Homework will be given.
