KEY STAGE 2 SATS

Purpose of the Tests Designed to test your child’s knowledge and understanding of the Key Stage 2 programmes of study in English and Maths. Provide information of your child’s attainment at the end of Key Stage 2 for Reading, Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar ( SPAG) and Mathematics. These results are sent to the Local Authority, the Department of Education and Ofsted. These test results are used to measure the performance of our school. The results are used to compare our school with other schools in the local authority and build a national picture of attainment with which we are also measured against.

Purpose of the Tests Parents The test results allow parents to understand their child’s academic performance compared to the national bench marks. The results will be reported to parents in the end of school year report, that you receive in July. The SAT results will report a whole level – 3, 4, 5 or 6. For school internal tracking only, each child’s attainment level is subdivided into a, b or c.

The Structure of the Tests What is tested? English- Reading Comprehension English – Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling Maths- Papers 1 and 2 Mental Mathematics Paper How is it tested? The tests are strictly timed and take place in a formal environment.

Writing Assessment? The children no longer have to ‘sit’ a SAT test in writing. Your children are continually being teacher assessed which provides a much more realistic picture of their abilities. These results are reported to you alongside the formal SAT results in the end of year report.
