Making a World of Difference

The fair trade movement makes sure that farmers are paid a fair minimum wage which they have agreed to. “ Before selling to Agrocel, I was selling to a middleman and there were a lot of problems. I would get less money. Now, selling to Agrocel, I can avoid these problems and get better money. The middleman gave the minimum price, today I am getting a better price.” Dalbir Singh, Rice Farmer

Fair trade gives money back to the community through the Fair Trade Premium. “The committee has 11 members. We try and meet every month and we decide what we are going to spend the premium on. There are 109 society members so we would like to buy more rotovators so that everybody will be able to use them. It is such a good tool – the latest – and it makes the field almost as soft as the cotton.” Sansar Chand, Member of the Agrocel Premium Committee.
