Unit 15 Audio Recording 1 Understand factors that affect audio quality within the recording process understand the causes of distortion in a recording system and minimise their effect upon quality identify sources of noise within a recording system and apply techniques for their elimination explain the need for effective monitoring and metering within the recording process and operate in a safe manner

Unit 15 Audio Recording 2 Evaluate different approaches to various sound sources and choose techniques and equipment appropriate to each circumstance differentiate between different microphone types and their effect upon recording quality determine the appropriate choice of microphone to suit a particular instrument or application based upon technical and artistic criteria correctly interface line level sources to the recording system evaluate various theories and techniques for the recording of sound sources in stereo

Unit 15 Audio Recording 3 Assess various methods of sound treatment to correct or enhance the recorded product assess the corrective and creative possibilities offered by the process of compression assess the corrective and creative possibilities offered by different types of noise gate evaluate various equalisation circuits and select appropriate types for corrective and creative purposes investigate established and current methods of creating effects to enhance the recorded product

Unit 15 Audio Recording 4 Compare different audio recording systems and examine the techniques, standards and approaches appropriate to each compare current analogue and digital recording media and systems, and the advantages and disadvantages of each type understand the interfacing standards and techniques in analogue and digital recording systems show knowledge and understanding of the processes and equipment involved in the multi-track recording studio examine current industry standards and formats for mastering and implement them within the mastering process
