OUTLINE Objectives of this session Project ACME Applying Cleaner Production to Multilateral Environmental Agreements The problem The solution The Training Kit ACME - Session 1 – Introduction to the training package - 2 / 7

THE PROBLEM No synergies between CP and MEAs Cleaner production (CP) and Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEA) are complementing each other: > Common objectives, e.g. sustainable development. > Different approaches: Formal/Government vs. informal/business. > CP is explicitly recommended as a tool in many MEA. > Both have the potential to strengthen the other. BUT > Lack of conscious effort to really use CP for MEA implementation, or to use MEA as support for CP promotion. ACME - Session 1 – Introduction to the training package - 3 / 7

SOLUTION The ACME approach Sida supported project coordinated by UNEP (2005/06) 1.Evaluate current integration of CP and MEA 2.Consultations with MEA secretariats 3.Field evaluation of tools and components 4.This Training Package ACME - Session 1 – Introduction to the training package - 4 / 7
