World Veterans Federation (WVF) WVF has 170 veteran orgs in 89 countries Representing 38,2 million veterans worldwide Represents estimated 65% of all vets in world Main objective: To bring together all those who have fought and experienced the suffering of wars, to work together to contribute towards the building of a peaceful, just and free world within the principles of the UN Charter & the Universal Declaration of Human Dignity
Aims of the WVF To defend the spiritual & material interest of vets and victims of war and their families… To maintain international peace & security… To promote full re-integration of vets & victims of war into their respective communities.. To further friendly relations among national organizations of veterans.. To encourage cooperation between vet orgs & exchange of expertise & experience.. To promote and maintain the sacred duty of remembrance for those that were dear to us.
Main Needs of Veterans Recognition – Database completion to identify participants – Benefits to assist vets & victims of war Commemoration – Maintain monuments & war graves for all sides – Encourage participation of both sides at services Reconciliation – Active actions – Maintain Honor Roll for vets who actively contribute to reconciliation

Benefits relating to military veterans 1. Compensation to mil vets; disabling injuries or severe psychological and neuro-psychiatric trauma or terminal disease resulting from military activities; 2.Dedicated counselling and treatment to mil vets, serious mental illness or post-traumatic stress disorder; 3.Facilitation of employment placement; 4.Facilitation of or advice on business opportunities; 5.Business facilitation programmes; 6.Subsidisation or provisioning of public transport; 7.Access to health care; 8.Housing; 9.Burial support
How do you qualify? Meet the criteria prescribed in the Military Veterans Benefits Regulations dd 19 Jan 2014 Veteran = force number Must be listed in the national military veterans data base
Benefit 1: Compensation for Injury, Trauma & Disease Must have resulted from participation in military activities Effect is on-going Medical assessment confirms the link Have not received benefit from other legislation Lump sum paid within 3 months after Minister approve Paid to vet or his deceased estate
Benefit 2: Counseling & Treatment for Mental Illness & Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Caused by participation in military activities In public or private health care facility A person of association acting on behalf of veteran may apply
Benefit 3: Application for facilitation of employment placement An unemployed veteran qualifies Submit CV with supporting documents Subject to availability of opportunities DMV will assist with draft of CV
Benefit 4: Facilitation of Business Opportunities Minister must establish a business vehicle All existing & potential mil vet business entities partially or wholly owned by mil vets and that are benefiting mil vets qualify for facilitation of business opportunities Register on mil vet business entity register
Benefit 5: Business Facilitation Programmes from DMV Training on business information & stats Training on planning, logistics & fin modeling Info on funding options & institutional arrangements Linkages to markets Skills transfer, capacity building, support & mentorship – The World needs a Father – Garden of Life etc
Benefit 6: Subsidized Public Transport Not employed & receive state pension Employed with annual income less than R If above – free public transport! Issued with card or voucher
Benefit 7: Access to Health Care If not employed and receive state pension If employed but does not qualify for medical aid subsidy from employer or Employed but medical cover is not sufficient to status of health of vet Public of private health care facility if public facility cannot conduct or is not in area.
Benefit 8: Housing Housing benefit of R if – Not employed and receives state pension – Employed with annual income less than R – Does not own house – Has not previously received a house of housing benefit from State – Spouse has not received house If you own a house and total sum of balance of mortgage loan is less than R , DMV may settle outstanding balance! Housing benefit includes allocation of a house
Benefit 9: Burial Support Qualify if on mil vet database, and – Not employed and receives state pension – Employed with annual income less than R Also if you are not on DMV Database, but on SADFA (association) database with doc evidence R burial support paid DMV could reimburse for already incurred cost!
How to Apply? Join the SADFA Appropriate application form Add documents of proof – Certified copy of your ID We will request your Service Certificate from SANDFDOC We will try our utmost to get you on DMV database ASAP DMV will then send 4 page doc to you
