loam - dark soil composed of sand, clay, and decaying plants.
geographic region - large area of land with a common set of features
climate - weather experienced by a region over a period of time
sunbelt - strip of warm weather states that runs across the southern United States
natural resource - any part of nature that people use in some way
piedmont - hilly region between the coastal plain and the Appalachian Mountains
tidewater - low lying eastern part of NC's Coastal Plain
Coastal Plain - flat region in NC that stretches miles inland from the coast
Outer Banks - long chain of sand bars and barrier islands off the coast of NC
sandbank - large deposit of sand forming a mound, ridge or hillside
vicinity - surrounding area
Environment- includes all living and nonliving things that make up an area
topography - physical terrain
fall line - dividing line between the Piedmont and the Coastal Plains.
