AN OVERVIEW OF TRANSLATION FROM ENGLISH TO SWEDISH Even with immense popularity of English language, regional grassroots level absorption in non-English speaking countries might be very minimal. For those organizations that operate solely in English, making a mark in the Swedish market and connecting with Swedes can be difficult. For various official, legal and marketing purposes, many English- based businesses might have to perform translation from English to Swedish. Here are some points to remember when translating documents from English to Swedish:

STANDARD SWEDISH While there are various regional varieties and dialects of Swedish, Standard Swedish is the official language of Sweden and legal documents must be translated into this version. A translation company could help you identify the right dialect of Swedish if you want to communicate or connect with local audiences via brochures or fliers

SENTENCE STRUCTURE Swedish, like most Germanic languages, has a word order where the finite verb inflected for person appears in the second position in a main clause. This is called V2 word order. English has SVO word order sentences. These differences must be kept in mind and translations cannot be done literally, word-for-word.

CULTURAL CONNOTATIONS It would probably be wise to take the help of those who understand Swedish culture and idiomatic language usage to ensure the translated phrases have the same connotations in Swedish as they did in English.
