How is Soil Formed? Over many years, weathering and erosion will cause the formation of soil. Soil is the loose, weathered material on the Earth’s surface.

Presentation transcript:

SOIL The upper layer of earth in which plants grow, a black or dark brown material typically consisting of a mixture of organic remains, clay, and rock particles. o SOIL CONSERVATION: Soil conservation is a combination of all methods of management and land use that safeguard the soil against depletion by natural or man induced factors.

SOIL CONSERVATION METHODS : Reduce rain drop impact. Reducing/slowing water movement across the land. Securing soil with plant roots. Increasing absorption of water. Carrying run-off water safely away. o OTHER PRACTICES: Cover crops Crop rotation Terracing Contour Plowing Mulching Conservation Plowing Strip Cropping Alley Cropping
