WHAT IS REPORTED SPEECH? When you ‘report’ what someone else has said* to you *reported speech verbs: said, explained, told, suggested, recommended, asked, etc. Direct/normal sentence: Mike:‘I like your hat!’ Indirect/reported speech: Mike said that he liked your hat.

HOW TO TURN DIRECT SENTENCES INTO INDIRECT SENTENCES ‘I will always love you!’ said Whitney. Whitney said that she would always love you.
