Points to Ponder Aim Objective Transmission line UPFC Reactive power Project circuit Simulink and Results Merits Conclusion Future scope
Aim Power flow improvement in transmission line against its losses
Objective Using UPFC
Transmission line Line which is most preferable to transfer the power between generation and consumer to a certain distance AC Transmission Line DC Transmission Line
Transmission losses Corona Skin effect Radiation, etc.,.
UPFC UPFC means Unified Power Flow control It a voltage source control fact device UPFC=STATCOM+SSSC It has a dc-capacitor link It has shunt and series controller
Cont…. UPFC
Cont…. Comparison of facts devices
Conti…. Series converter It is used to inject the real/ reactive power in the transmission line of adjustable magnitude and phase angle based on the requirement / demand. In steady state condition the series real power demand is supplied by the shunt controller. In transient condition the series power demand is by the dc link capacitor.
Conti.. Shunt converter It is used to compensate / control bus voltage / shunt reactive power It also control dc link capacitor voltage.
Dc-link capacitor: Dc link is used to control transients in AC transmission system Co-ordinate control
Reactive power: It is the force which is useful to flow the real power. It is a fault current. It can flow in both directions at receiving end and sending end.
Conti….
Conti… Logic used PI logic P-proportional I-integral It takes less time for response.

Mat-Lab MATLAB (Matrix Laboratory) MATLAB is developed by The Math Works. MATLAB is a high-level technical computing language and interactive environment for algorithm development, data visualization, data analysis, and numeric computation. MATLAB can be install on Unix, Windows It is the tool for every engineer to design a device
Simulink and Results
Conti.. X-axis Time of Response Y-axis Reactive Power
Conti… X-axis Time of Response Y-axis Vdc – DC-link voltage
Conti… X-axis Time of Response Y-axis UPFC result
Merits Increase transmission line capacity Direct power flow along selected lines Power flow system oscillation damping Voltage support and regulation Control of active and reactive power flow at both sending and receiving ends
Conclusion The dynamics of the system is compared with and without the presence of UPFC in the system in the event of a major disturbance. It is clear from the simulation results that there is a considerable improvement in the system performance with the presence of UPFC for which the settling time in post fault period is found to be around 0.6 second.
Future scope Active powers, reactive power controller of 48-pulse converters try to maintained unity power factor. Hence it can also applicable for multiline with multi machine systems and IPFC, DPFC; UPFC can be operated under fault conditions in a transmission system.
