When the user formats a hard drive or deletes a file by using standard tools then only a reference to its data is removed from system allocation tables and the file's clusters are marked as unprocessed. But there will be no actual deleting or removal is performed until and unless another file overwrites the space on the disk where the original file stayed. There are functions which help in tracing and restoring deleted files, therefore it is suggested that the user should not delete files containing sensitive information in a regular way. So the best idea is to overwrite such hard drive or the file with useless or meaningless data before removing it, which is exactly what Data Shredder does. So, if the user has already deleted sensitive information with standard tools, Data Shredder can still recover the file by cleaning disk free space.

1. From the drop down menu in the top right corner, select Shred files. 2. Click Browse from the center of the screen and use the check boxes to select files to shred from the directory. The user can also select single files by maximizing the folder or select the entire folder. 3. From top right corner click Shred and then Yes. 4. Click Ok after confirmation message.

This choice can actually destroy all the information currently and previously stored on a partition. 1. From the drop down menu in the top right corner, select Shred Whole partition. 2. Select partition from the drop down menu in the center of screen 3. From top right corner click Shred and then Yes. 4. Click Ok after confirmation message.

This procedure makes the data and information from previously deleted files unrecoverable. 1. From top right corner select Clean free space on a disk from the drop-down menu. 2. Select the disk from the drop-down menu. 3. In the top right corner click Clean and then confirm with Yes. 4. Click OK after confirmation.
