Presentation transcript:

 Scoliosis is a medical condition where a person's spinal column has a sideways contour.  If you look at someone's back, you'll see that the spine operates straight down the centre. When a person has scoliosis, their backbone figure aside.  The curve is usually "S"- or "C"-shaped. The angle of the curve may be small, large or somewhere in between

Congenital scoliosis Early scoliosis Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis Degenerative scoliosis Neuromuscular scoliosis Scheuermann's kyphosis Syndromic scoliosis  There are several types of scoliosis. They are illustrated as below

 Congenital scoliosis is a type of scoliosis that you are born with.  Occasionally one or more do not form at all, which causes the spinal column to grow unevenly when a child is born.  This type of scoliosis is rare because the spine will not develop fully in the womb.  This scoliosis caused by an abnormally shaped bone that present since birth

 Early onset scoliosis is every time a curve shows up between birth and age group 10, or before growing up.  Scoliosis is when the backbone curves or twists to the side. This could bring about a C or S shaped curve.  scoliosis is each time a contour appears between birth and age 10, or before puberty. Usually, early starting point scoliosis is idiopathic

 Teen idiopathic scoliosis is a change in the condition of the spine when a child is growing.  It results in the spine curving sideways and twisting simultaneously.  This twisting can draw the ribcage out of position, often leading to a hump on one side of the steak.  When this happens between ages 10 and 18 it is called teen idiopathic scoliosis (AIS)

 Degenerative scoliosis occurs in adults for two major causes.  Degenerative scoliosis of both varieties can happen because the bones get weakened as a body ages.  The spine commences to show wear and tear due to age group.  This wear and rip can cause the vertebrae to break down, creating the curve to increase

 Neuromuscular scoliosis is a curvity of the spine triggered by a neurological or muscular condition.  Neurological conditions impact the body's nervous system.  Good examples are cerebral palsy and spine bifida.  Not all individuals with a neurological condition will build up scoliosis

 Scheuermann's kyphosis is a condition in which the front parts of the vertebrae small bones that make up the spine grow more slowly than the back sections during childhood.  The condition is considered to be quite uncommon but the number of men and women afflicted is not truly known as it is often pay to poor position.  It influences both men and women in equivalent numbers

 Syndromic scoliosis means that the side by side curve of the vertebrae develops as part of a syndrome.  A syndrome is a condition that is made up of plenty of symptoms (signs) that appear together.  The patient will therefore be checked regularly for signs of curvature in their spine

Stop Progressive curvature of spine and health issues Save patient from chronic back pain, arthritis of the spine etc. To reduce rib prominence and diminish spinal deformity Stop progression on negative effect on heart and lung health
