ALPHA THALESSIM IA MAJOR.

WHAT IS THALASSAEMIA MAJOR. Thalassaemia major is a dreadful hereditary disease of blood. it results from defective formation of haemoglobin after birth. the normal haemoglobin is essential for life. Children born to parents having defective genes develop serious blood disorder called “THALASSAEMIA MAJOR”. Their physical growth is severely hampered unless they are given the blood transfusions to maintain haemoglobin value to normal value.

WHY DETECT THALASSAEMIA MINOR BEFORE MARRIAGE ? The most unfortunate part of story is that majority of parents became aware of genetic problem only after they get a child suffering from Thalassaemia Major by which time is too late to take any preventive steps. All that remains in their hands is to face the problem and sufferings.

WHY DETECT THALASSAEMIA MINOR BEFORE MARRIAGE ? It is important to note that the frequency of Thalassaemia gene is common in our country. It is as high as 13% in certain communities. one of the way to obviate suffering sue to birth of Thalassaemia Major child is to know possible existence of Thalassaemia gene before marriage. This can be done by special blood investigations.

REMEMBER Persons with Thalassaemia Minor do not have symptoms. If both the parents have Thalassaemia Minor, children develop a dreadful disease called Thalassaemia Major. It is possible to recognize Thalassaemia Minor by special blood investigations. Get yourself checked for Thalassaemia Minor before marriage.
