Sergei Korolev (Russia) designed the first artificial satellite in 1957.

In 1981 Bill Gates (USA) created Microsoft-DOS (Disk operating System)

In 1876 Alexander Graham Bell, an American engineer, invented telephone.

John Logie Baird from Scotland invented television in 1926.

Orville and Wilbur Wright The Wright brothers invented, built, and flew the first airplane on December 7, 1903, at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. They reported their flight in a letter to government officials in Washington, D.C., but such an achievement was considered impossible. Therefore, their letter was ignored. It was not until 1908 that the Wright brothers gained worldwide fame. You can see the Kitty Hawk Flyer on display at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C.

Henry Ford (1863-1947) Henry Ford was born in 1863. He was a man who transformed the world. The car the built changed the lives of people everywhere. In 1896, ford succeeded in building an automobile powered by a gasoline engine. He built his engine in his kitchen sink. In 1903, Henry Ford established the Ford Motor Company and introduced the model T Ford. Henry Ford wanted to make a car that everyone would be able to afford. He was able to lower the price of the Model T from 850 to 360 dollars by introducing mass production assembly line techniques. On an assembly line each person has one specific job and, therefore, can do it taster and more efficiently.

Alexander Graham Bell (1947-1922) Alexander Graham Bell was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1847. he invented the first telephone in 1876 and became a citizen of the United States in 1882. Bell was a modest humanitarian who once told his family that he would rather be remembered as a teacher of the deaf than as the inventor of the telephone. Both his mother and his wife were deaf. In tribute to Scotland and America, the inscription on Bell’s grave reads: “Born in Edinburgh… died a citizen of the United States of America.”

ABOUT MOBILE PHONES The wonderful thing about mobile phones is that wherever you are, whatever you are doing, you can keep it switched off so no one will bother you. If you do use them, you can make calls from virtually anywhere. For example, you can call the office from underneath your blanket and say you are on the way to your partner’s firm.

There are two places where everybody automatically hates you if your mobile rings – restaurants and funerals. In both cases it’s best to give the impression that the call is so important that you absolutely had to answer it. When mobile phones first arrived, the only people to have them were estate agents or drug dealers. Now respectable people use them.

However, even if you are district nurse and your mobile rings in public, people will still assume that you an estate agent, drug dealer, or both. Which is a shame because, for many working women, the mobile phone is vital for their safety and independence.

For men, on the other hand, having a mobile phone is a chance to pretend you spend a lot of time working on oil rigs or other tough, remote locations, even if it rings when you are in the local shop. Of course, mobile phones are especially useful for anyone who spends a lot of time away from the office. Most bosses, for example.

Many business people use their phones in their cars Many business people use their phones in their cars. Of course, this is strictly forbidden unless you have a “hands-free” set. Men tend to ignore this rule because they are used to driving virtually hands free while, for example, explaining how the goal in extra time was scored.
