Eleanor Roosevelt High School & Norco College Dual Enrollment Program

Eleanor Roosevelt HS & Norco College Dual Enrollment Program

What is Dual Enrollment? Comes from new California State legislation AB 288: “AB 288 College and Career Access Pathways Act to allow high school students, especially those in underserved communities, greater access to college courses and career tech classes at both high school and college campuses.” Norco College and CNUSD have been working on an agreement which allows for students to take Norco College classes taught at ERHS Differs from our current program of concurrent enrollment which has seat number and GPA limitations

AB 288 CCAP Partnership Agreements Requires district level partnerships Intended to reach broader range of students, not just highly gifted or advanced scholastic or vocational work Emphasis on College and Career Readiness and CTE and transfer pathways Intended to reduce the number of students needing remedial math and English instruction at the community college level

ERHS & Norco College Dual Enrollment Partnership Courses aligned with industry & in-demand careers Prepared to start College Calculus for a Science, Engineering or Math Major Smoother transition from high school to college Accelerated pathway through college that can save time and money

Dual Enrollment Benefits All courses are FREE! Includes all related fees and books Classes are taught by College faculty or ERHS teachers that are adjunct faculty Earn college units while earning high school graduation credits without having to pass an AP exam College to college credit for transfer to UC/CSU’s and community colleges Courses are conveniently taught on ERHS’s campus. No need for students to be concerned with transportation to college campus We support our students through the process of the college application, registration and throughout the year Students have the opportunity to take 15 units per semester (up to 4 classes max) at Norco College Students learn the structure and rigor of college courses before entering first year of postsecondary college.

Dual Enrollment Pathways Business & Gaming: Between our ERHS articulated business and gaming courses and our Norco College Dual Enrollment courses taught here, a student could fulfill half of the requirements for a Norco College Gaming or Business Certificate and units toward an AA or AS degree. College Term Calendar Dual Enrollment Students Follow Norco College’s academic calendar: Fall Semester 2017 August 28 – December 14th Norco College is in session for Thanksgiving Break (11/20-11/22) Spring Semester 2018 February 12, 2018 – June 7, 2018 Students attend Norco classes during CNUSD spring break (4/2 – 4/6) Norco College spring break is April 9, 2018 – April 15, 2018

Considerations A “D” or “F” or “W” (Withdraw) grade are permanently reflected on the student’s college transcript and the student may be placed on academic probation at the college level plus financial aid. Students are expected to attend classes. Students must be mentally, emotionally and academically prepared and ready for college rigor. Students are expected to complete rigorous course work, which may impact time available for extracurricular activities. Low grades can negatively impact high school GPA, high school graduation status and could affect 4-year college admission decisions. Poor grades can also impact CIF and NCAA eligibility. ERHS students enrolled in the Dual Enrollment program are COLLEGE STUDENTS. Students must act on their own behalf and instructors only communicate with the student.
