Setting up a WordPress Site

Follow these instructions VERY carefully If you make a mistake, your work might not be visible and you cannot be graded for it. Go to http://www.wordpress.com

Click on GET STARTED

Click START WITH A BLOG

The themes show up in a random order Look for Hemingway Rewritten Do NOT pick another theme Click Hemingway Rewritten

Write a FAKE NAME here

After writing your fake name, options appear Click SELECT for the FREE option

Click START WITH FREE

Click on MY SITE to make the menu appear again

Click Add beside Pages MAKE SURE IT IS PAGES AND NOT ANOTHER CHOICE

Write the title This I Believe Like this

Options appear below You want to see “Allow Comments” Click More Options Options appear below You want to see “Allow Comments”

Click PUBLISH 1 2 Do not forget to do this  Click on the box A checkmark will appear If the Publish button doesn’t appear, go to your email & confirm WordPress email If a trash can appears, just click on the words “Allow Comments” (not the trash can)

In the top left of your page… Click the arrow

Click Add beside Pages Do it again to create a PROFILE page Click on My Site to get the menu Click Add beside Pages MAKE SURE IT IS PAGES AND NOT ANOTHER CHOICE

Write the title Profile

Options appear below You want to see “Allow Comments” Click More Options Options appear below You want to see “Allow Comments”

Click PUBLISH 1 2 Click on the box A checkmark will appear Do not forget to do this  If a trash can appears, just click on the words “Allow Comments” (not the trash can)

Click Add beside Pages Do it again to create a REFLECTION page Click on My Site to get the menu Click Add beside Pages MAKE SURE IT IS PAGES AND NOT ANOTHER CHOICE

Write the title Reflection

Options appear below You want to see “Allow Comments” Click More Options Options appear below You want to see “Allow Comments”

Click PUBLISH 1 2 Click on the box A checkmark will appear Do not forget to do this  If a trash can appears, just click on the words “Allow Comments” (not the trash can)

We will make these pages appear on the menu Next… We will make these pages appear on the menu

Click Customize beside Themes If the blue menu bar is not visible click on My Site  Click Customize beside Themes It takes time to load…

Click Menus If you end up in a different place, go back to a place that matches one of these slides and try again

Be careful! Don’t click anywhere else Click Primary Be careful! Don’t click anywhere else

A new box will appear beside this one Click Add Items A new box will appear beside this one

The + will turn into a checkmark Click Reflection Click Profile Click This I Believe The + will turn into a checkmark

Don’t Forget ! Click Add Items

at the top left… Click Save & Publish

Make sure you clicked SAVE AND PUBLISH ! It’s at the top left of your screen beside the URL window Click GO BACK ARROW

THIS SHOULD GIVE YOU THE CORRECT URL (the address) Does the URL have the word WORDPRESS only once? Does it follow this pattern? https://fakename.wordpress.com/ IF YES, GO TO SLIDE 38 (skip the next 3 slides) If no, go to the next slide

IMPORTANT ! If the blue column is open on the left, the long URL is wrong

1. Click on Site Preview 2. Click here to maximize A page before a page appears The URL is still the wrong one (too long)

The URL should be https://fakename.wordpress.com/ Don’t send bigger URL (https://wordpress.com/pagesfakename.wordpress.com)  1 Word before wordpress.com Wordpress.com must appear only ONCE in the URL See previous slide to fix this if needed

To start blogging, go to your menu & click on ADD beside Blog Posts Click the blue publish button when you are done your blog See the NEWS section of D2L for weekly blog prompts
