Rationale for a Curriculum Library No Child Left Behind has made it important for teachers-to-be to “understand how these curriculum materials can aid them in meeting national standards” Contribute to the development of a collaborative relationship between teachers and the library “The recent inclusion of information literacy skills in the national education guidelines demonstrates the need for teachers to become information- literate as a part of their preservice education program” A well-equipped Curriculum Materials center indicates university commitment to teacher education & thus can help with marketing and recruitment NCATE & AACTE have indicated an imperative for teacher education programs to integrate “practice-based experiences along with pedagogy and content”

A majority of COE professors assign work that requires access to K-12 instructional materials “In addition to becoming familiar with all components of the textbook SE and TE, they must also select a textbook lesson in their area of interest and at their preferred grade level and complete an evaluation form on the adequacy of the TE for supporting their instruction of the lesson.” Do your students need access to K-12 instructional materials for work assigned in your course? “The undergraduates need to have a basic knowledge of reading curriculum and some other subjects to select and use books from the children's genres.” “Graduate students in the instructional partners class are expected to create a collaborative lesson with a teacher from any subject area they choose.” “Not currently but I would like the option- this year the history textbooks have caused quite the uproar.” “Instructor uses material as examples of what would be available in the classroom.”

It is unfair to expect new teachers to use digital textbooks if they never studied them as students. I strongly support the library's efforts to secure access to state-adopted digital textbooks and resources.”

Outcomes Formation of College of Education Curriculum Library Advisory Group The COE Curriculum Library Advisory Group will collaborate with Neumann Library staff to develop strategic direction for Curriculum Library collections and services, supporting faculty and student access to high-quality Pre-K through 12th grade instructional materials.

Outcomes Summer 2017 Curriculum Library Reorganization Reorganize curriculum and Spanish juvenile materials to accommodate known student teacher needs Update catalog records to reflect new subcollections and standardize metadata Phase out deteriorated, duplicated, or irrelevant items that impede findability and usability of the collection Reconfigure the arrangement of tables, desks, and chairs Modernize the signage, posters, and decorations to reflect contemporary K-12 learning spaces
