We are off to a terrific start! Thank you to the staff and parents for a wonderful Meet the Teacher Night. One of our top priorities at Story is to keep our students safe. We will be practicing emergency procedures throughout the first few weeks of school to ensure that students feel safe and comfortable in their environment. Some tips that will help your child have a safe year include: Follow school arrival and dismissal procedures. Please do not leave your child unattended before the school opens at 7:30. Please be consistent in how your child is picked up from school. If there is a change call the office by 2:30 or send a note to the teacher in the morning. Please use the car-line tag to help us find your child quickly. Please do not use your cell phone while in the parking lot or car-line. For those students who walk, review safety rules regularly. For example: Find and use the most visible route when walking to and from school. Walk with other children (not alone). Make all after school plans before coming to school. Have a system where children let parents know if they are not walking straight home. If children are meeting their parents off school property for pick-up, make sure they know to return to school if parent is not there. Discuss and follow safe practices in dealing with strangers. Know how to find help if needing assistance. Make sure children know their address and phone number in case they get lost. We look forward to TEAMing with you as we go forward into another exemplary year at Story.  Respectfully, Judith Coffman, Principal WATCH D.O.G.S.? Curtis – Name of web site? You may send them with your child anytime. Help your child's class become the "Class of the Month" for the most items collected for September!

Thank You! Thank You! Girl Scout Welcome Back! Recruitment Night!   Recruitment Night will be held at First United Methodist Church, 601 S. Greenville in Allen on Friday, September 17, 2010, at 7 PM.  Contact Lara Carey (469)742-9566 or Caroline Ritzer (214)674-6980 with any questions. Welcome Back! Welcome back to school! Now is the time to start sending in those Box Tops and Campbell’s labels you have been collecting all summer long! For Campbell's, we only need the UPC with point value, not the whole label. For Box Tops, please try and clip the Box Tops on the dotted lines. We get hundreds of labels and Box Tops on a weekly basis and it helps make our job of counting and sorting easier! This is a special time for Box Tops collectors! Many products currently have bonus coupons on each box! Keep your eyes open for those bonus opportunities! And don’t forget, Box Tops can be found on paper products too, such as Kleenex and Cottonelle. Campbell’s UPCs can be found on any of the following products: Campbell’s soup, Pepperidge Farm (ie. Goldfish), Franco-American, Spaghettios, Swanson, and V8. Keep an eye out for those labels with 5 point UPCs! At the end of each six-week period, the class with the most Box Tops and labels will win the coveted Story Spirit Stick and have a chance to decorate it (courtesy of retired AISD teacher Mrs. Long). You will also win a FREE RECESS from Mrs. Coffman. Let’s all make this the BEST year yet! Cheryll Tallent Box Top Coordinator Sixth Grade Pre-AP Math Last Tuesday, a letter was sent to all 6th grade parents whose students met the criteria for Pre-AP Math. Pre-AP placement was determined by reviewing students’ final math grades and Math TAKS scores (or equivalent) from both the 4th and 5th grade. If a student does not qualify for Pre-AP math at this time, he/she will be re-evaluated in the spring of 6th grade for Math 7 Pre-AP. The Story Teacher Appreciation committee would like to thank all the parents who so graciously donated food for the Teacher Appreciation Breakfast held on Wednesday, August 18. Regan Allen Meredith Valenta Emily Burlbaw Tresa Frost It was a great success that could not have been done without you! Thanks again, Melanie Deese Teacher Appreciation Committee Thank You! Thank You! Norma Rios Lisa Pryor Jenn Lunt Jennifer Burton Gisela Garcia Barbara Vega Robyn Kordick “Art to Go” Volunteers Needed Story is participating in the “Art to Go” program for its 1st year. “Art to Go” is an art appreciation program sponsored by the Allen Arts Alliance. Volunteers will go into the same classroom once a month (Oct.-April) for about 40 minutes equipped with a portfolio containing 6-12 high-quality art prints, all relating to a single theme. The focus of the sessions is to encourage students to talk about what it is they think or feel about the art they see. Volunteers will be given background information on each piece of artwork, as well as discussion questions and activities to share with the students. Classroom teachers will remain in the classroom with you. Volunteers will attend a training session and do a practice presentation. You do not have to think up activities or come up with the artwork. It’s all spelled out for you! All you need to bring is enthusiasm and a desire to work with our children. We are looking for presenters as well as someone who is can coordinate the program at Story. We cannot make it happen without enough volunteers! If you would like to get involved, or if you have any questions, please contact Mindye Piepenburg at mpiepenb@cisco.com.
