INTRODUCTION The Office of the Premier, Department of Basic Education, eThekwini Metro and African Renaissance have established a Steering Committee responsible for facilitating International Scholarships and Exchange Programmes to youth in KZN.   http://www.kznyis.gov.za/

SCHOLARSHIPS Scholarships and exchange programmes are available to South African students to study abroad. These are offered by different governments and institutes from all over the world.  Study programmes include undergraduate, master, doctoral or post-doctoral degrees covering many different fields of interest.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT The KZN Office of the Premier and its partners in this programme are only facilitators of information to you and are in no way responsible for giving out these bursaries. It is therefore encouraged that applicants apply for scholarships which are fully funded. For very needy students, the only assistance provided is for covering visa, and passport applications.

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS Matric students require a minimum of 4 As Masters/ PHD require a minimum of 65% and above in the core subjects. Note: All current studies must be completed as transferring to another university is difficult unless it is an exchange programme

WHAT IS THE APPLICATION PROCESS?  

1. RESEARCH http://www.kznyis.gov.za/ Check for University programmes and bursary opportunities Attend information talks where necessary Speak to advisors and supervisors Ensure the course of study / university is recognised in that country and in SA by SAQA Also Check that you: Meet the admission and bursary requirements Have sufficient finance in case where this is required Understand the application process Know all submission dates for applications

2. PREPARE Collate all documents: references, academic transcripts, research proposal, motivation letters Prepare, register and sit for any required Entry Exams including English competency tests as required Submit by due date

3. APPLY Apply for passport/police clearance/ undergo medicals, etc Send in university and bursary applications (Bursaries are often only allocated after acceptance to the university)

4. ON ACCEPTANCE Check bursary conditions carefully Apply for student visa - ensure that you understand conditions Check accommodation Book air flights/ transit arrangements Attend orientation talk ( if available)
