Classroom Websites (coming soon: CANVAS) Use the school website for general announcements Students will use CANVAS to access files, websites, and information DOJO is a great way to be notified about tests, quizzes, and projects

Math http://www.corestandards.org/the-standards/mathematics/ Common Core Website EC time will be met in class 5 days a week. AIG time will be met in class 3 times a week Textbooks: No textbooks will be assigned to students. However, students may keep an old book at home. Students will have access to the math book online – Bring an e-mail address for your child to Mrs. Watson to be approved by the county office. Once the address has been approved you and your child can set up an account with Carnegie. Benchmark Testing: There will be a math benchmark test at the end of every 9-week grading period. This test will count as a test grade for the students. (this will be all subjects) Importance of Math Journal

ELA Long term assignment expectations—dates posted in class and on website Reading logs: notes about reading-questions, predictions, new vocabulary, location in text (page and paragraph) Lexicon: The New Spelling Emphasis on vocabulary building and spelling in context Building vocabulary through reading and integrating words across the curriculum Therefore, no spelling grade given, but writing scores will include spelling component

Social Studies Our focus will be on mapping and the earliest people/civilizations (BC) up to the 1400s (AD). Following an intense focus on map skills, our first stop will study the age of hunter-gatherers. Mix of lecture, projects, papers, Discovery Tech Internet access

After School Tutoring/Review Will begin first week in October Math sessions (covering a variety of topics from class or EOG review) will be held on Wednesday from 2:35-3:15 Reader’s/Writer’s Workshop will be held on Thursday afternoons from 2:35-3:15. These sessions will cover a variety of topics discussed in class, provide an opportunity for in-depth writing conferencing, and EOG review skills. Session topics will be determined by the students present. Students need to make transportation arrangements at least one day in advance and sign up for after school sessions so that we know who to expect. Sessions will begin promptly at 2:35; after school snacks will be permitted if students bring their own. A note or email is required for students to stay after school for ANY reason.
