Substitute Care There are many types of substitute child care. Two general settings include home-based care and center-based care. Each state has its own agency that licenses child care centers. license An official printed document that gives permission, such as one from the state that indicates child care providers meet health and safety standards.

Substitute Care Many parents need substitute care for their school-age children before and after school and during holidays, breaks, and summers.

Choosing Substitute Child Care Many factors must be considered when choosing substitute child care. There are several issues specific to home-based care that parents should consider. Parents should write a list of questions to ask when searching for the right child care facility for their child. List some questions you might ask when considering home-based care.

Choosing Substitute Child Care Groups such as Child Care Aware, National Association for the Education of Young Children, and Nation’s Network of Child Care Resource and Referral offer help in finding child care in many areas.
