Excellence in Financial Reporting Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Awarded by the Government Finance Officers Association

FINANCIAL REPORTING Implemented RecTrac Automating the daily operations of the Recreation Department to facilitate scheduling, registration and payment services.

PUBLIC WORKS Cooper City was awarded for the 35th year in a row with the distinction of “Tree City USA”. We have installed chilled water Hydration Stations to refill water bottles, in our continuing efforts to go green. The sports lighting upgrade at the Sports Complex has been completed, providing more energy efficient lighting. We are continuing with our citywide sidewalk replacement and repair program.

CITY CLERK Approximately 4,512 passport applications were processed. The passport acceptance office is a walk-in facility, available Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Approximately 713 Special Magistrate Code Enforcement cases were processed in fiscal year 2016.

UTILITIES Our water main replacement program will be completed this Spring in an effort to proactively maintain and improve our facilities and infrastructure. We will have replaced 20 miles of old, deteriorating piping in the space of 4 years.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT 5 Citizen Advisory Boards: Business Advisory Board Education Advisory Board Recreation Advisory Board Senior Advisory Board Green Advisory Board

COMMUNITY RESOURCES The Community Center and Pool & Tennis Center are available to rent for birthday parties, receptions and other events. We introduced a new Splash Pad to the City’s Pool & Tennis Center. A newly acquired mobile stage will enhance events and concerts, and will be used for camps and programs.

GROWTH MANAGEMENT The first residents moved into The Sheridan at Cooper City, an assisted living facility for Seniors, in November 2016. Cooper City’s low crime rate, quality schools and large number of parks helped us to become the City with the fourth highest median income in Broward County. Renovations of the Countryside Shops on Flamingo Road have started with a brand new architectural facade and a relocation of the Publix store in the same center. Cooper City continues its “Platinum Cities” designation under the Greater Ft. Lauderdale Alliance Permitting Excellence Program.

BUILDING Implemented an expired permits program, incorporating the Special Magistrate process to achieve compliance. Providing permit holders with a 30 day advance notice of permit expiration

BSO PUBLIC SAFETY The Fire Department transports Santa to over 50 homes each night, bringing joy to over 750 children during the holiday season. The 9th Annual Cooper City/Davie Autism Awareness Day was held at Fire Station 28. 49 families were certified on how to properly install and use their infant/child car seat. 81 citizens were trained and certified in CPR. BSO now has body cameras. Increased traffic enforcements efforts.

The Recreation Department holds about 28 events annually: Large Community Events: Cooper City Founder’s Day Light-Up Cooper City Senior Lifestyle Expo Egg Hunts Food Trucks Resident-Oriented Events: Daddy/Daughter Dinner Father & Son Adventure Mom & Son Night of Fun Mother/Daughter Tea New Events Added to Our Calendar this Year: Eat to the Beat Food Truck Event Cooper City Pageants Flick on the Field Movie Night Tour de Cooper Cycling Event Veteran’s Day Ceremony The Recreation Department also holds a variety of recreational, adult and aquatic programs that serve over 110,000 participants annually at the Community Center and Pool & Tennis Center.
