Experience: Audience Etiquette Jack and the Beanstalk with Le Theatre de Marionette Experience: Audience Etiquette The characters, or actors, you will see in the performance are not real but the puppeteers who operate them are! The puppeteers, though you cannot see them are very aware of their audience and respond to every movement and sound. When the audience laughs or claps, the puppeteers are encouraged! A talking or moving audience is a rude audience, and puppeteers get very frustrated because they feel as though no one is paying attention. Listening is also very important, remember the puppet show is LIVE. There is no stop or rewind, real people move the puppets, say the words, and changing the scenery and lights. In an emergency, please quietly escort students to the lobby. We also ask that educators remove crying, shouting or otherwise disruptive students from the theater. And generally we ask that all educators assist our staff and artists by maintaining appropriate student behavior during the performance. It appeared as "The Story of Jack Spriggins and the Enchanted Bean" in 1734 and as "The History of Jack and the Bean-Stalk" in 1807. One day she tells him they are so poor that he must take the cow to market to get some food. On the way Jack meets a man who gives Jack five magic beans in exchange for the cow. His angry mother throws the beans into the garden. Overnight the beans grow into a huge beanstalk and Jack climbs up. At the top he finds a castle where a giant lives. Jack and his mother cut down the beanstalk and the giant falls to his death. Project: Counting Beans Jack and the Beanstalk with Le Theatre de Marionette Project: Counting Beans Jack’s mom threw out his magic beans into the yard. For this project we are going to pretend she threw them in a bucket of beans. Students can help Jack by sorting through all the beans to find Jack’s magic seeds. Students call out the count of magic seeds they find to improve counting skills. Now students have to keep track of two counts, magic seeds and golden eggs. The giant’s famous line in this story is: “Fee Fie Foe Fum I smell the blood of an Englishman”. Have students make giant feet and stomp around the room searching for Jack. The giant feet will force the students into exaggerated movements which is great exercise! Try it as a team work exercise where students have to work together to get around the room.
