4.9 The UK as a Multi-Faith Society Benefits of a Multi-faith society

Benefits Increased tolerance through better knowledge and friendship. People are used to diversity and stop seeing it as a threat and reduces the likelihood of war and international conflict A deeper understanding of other ways of life and customs- Better understanding of other ways of life, outlooks and philosophies. This can help you understand your own better Religious festivals are about celebration and can be fun. They can unite a community, even when they do not all follow the religion it supports. It can bring beautiful art and architecture to the UK which all people can enjoy. There can be a religious influence on fashion, food and music

4.9 The UK as a Multi-Faith Society Problems of a Multi-faith society

Problems Interfaith marriage can cause tension in families. The ceremony, which religion? Children, which religion? Funerals and burial, which religion? Beliefs affecting the marriage, sex before marriage, abortion, euthanasia, circumcision, food laws etc… Trying to convert each other can cause tension Tension about new or existing laws, e.g.. Alcohol, abortion, euthanasia, freedom of speech Tension caused by conflict abroad Increased paranoia, fuelled by the media that neighbours could be terrorists

Results Plus People may find it insulting which can cause argument and friction Pluralists will find it annoying if people pester them to convert If people convert it can lead to interfaith marriages. This causes problems Wedding ceremony Funeral Children etc… Conversion can lead to family rifts and even deaths
