Aalto University specialises in technology, business and art, and collaboration with companies is important for the university. Aalto University produces Bachelors and Masters of Science in Economics and Business Administration, Bachelors and Masters of Arts, and Bachelors of Science in Technology and Masters of Science in Technology, Architecture and Landscape Architecture.

We promote entrepreneurship Our entrepreneurial ecosystem is Finland’s leading growth company incubator. It comprises entrepreneurship training (including the Aalto Ventures Program), accelerators (Startup Sauna, Startup Center), student-driven entrepreneurship communities (the Aaltoes, which organises the Slush events), actors commercialising research results, and product development environments (Design Factory).

At the forefront of research The tenure track system has attracted international experts: More than half of the professors currently working at Aalto University have been recruited after 2010. About 30% of them are from outside Finland.

Innovation through collaboration The environmentally friendly Ioncell F method will boost cotton recycling. A revolutionary invention in heat conduction enables super powerful quantum computers. Finland’s first satellite was developed by students. Heat conduction A research group led by Mikko Möttönen succeeded in transporting heat ten thousand times further than ever before. As a result of this discovery, the development of quantum computers can take a giant leap forward. Recycled fibre Ioncell F, a process revolutionising cotton recycling has won the H&M Global Change Award. The environmentally friendly technology is a result of cooperation between chemistry, forest products technology and textile experts. Aalto-1 satellite Finland’s first satellite was developed by students. The new-generation satellite involves technological innovations, the results of which can also be used in other fields.

Otaniemi campus into Aalto City The Otaniemi campus is being strongly reformed. By 2021, all of the University’s core functions will be in Otaniemi, home of the lively Aalto City that supports innovations. The Otaniemi-Keilaniemi area is an internationally important innovation cluster, housing Aalto University, a number of research institutes, companies and startup actors. Otaniemi is home to four schools of technology, a part of the School of Arts, Design and Architecture, and the bachelor-level education of the School of Business. We also operate in Töölö and Arabia, Helsinki as well as in Mikkeli.

Towards an innovative society Aalto University was established in 2010 as the spearhead project of Finland’s university reform. It was given the national mission of strengthening Finland's innovative capability through research, arts and education.
