Being Good Stewards Luke 7:36-8:18

“One of the Pharisees asked Jesus to have dinner with him, Luke 7:36-39 “One of the Pharisees asked Jesus to have dinner with him, so Jesus went to his home and sat down to eat. ‎ When a certain immoral woman from that city heard He was eating there, she brought a beautiful alabaster jar filled with expensive perfume. ‎

Then she knelt behind Him at His feet, weeping. Her tears fell on His feet, and she wiped them off with her hair. Then she kept kissing His feet and putting perfume on them.

“When the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, He would know what kind of woman is touching Him. She’s a sinner!”

“I have something to say to you.” “Go ahead, Teacher,” Luke 7:40-50 “Then Jesus answered his thoughts. “Simon,” He said to the Pharisee, “I have something to say to you.” “Go ahead, Teacher,” Simon replied. ‎ Then Jesus told him this story:

Who do you suppose loved him more after that?” “A man loaned money to two people—500 pieces of silver to one and 50 pieces to the other. ‎ But neither of them could repay him, so he kindly forgave them both, canceling their debts. Who do you suppose loved him more after that?”

“I suppose the one for whom he canceled the larger debt.” ‎Simon answered, “I suppose the one for whom he canceled the larger debt.” “That’s right,” Jesus said. Then He turned to the woman and said to Simon, “Look at this woman kneeling here.

When I entered your home, you didn’t offer Me water to wash the dust from My feet, but she has washed them with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You didn’t greet Me with a kiss, but from the time I first came in, she has not stopped kissing My feet. ‎

You neglected the courtesy of olive oil to anoint My head, but she has anointed My feet with rare perfume. ‎ “I tell you, her sins—and they are many—have been forgiven, so she has shown Me much love. But a person who is forgiven little shows only little love.” ‎

Then Jesus said to the woman, “Your sins are forgiven.” ‎ The men at the table said among themselves, “Who is this man, that He goes around forgiving sins?” ‎ And Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”

Matthew 11:28-30 "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. "For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

Luke 8:1-3 “Soon afterward Jesus began a tour of the nearby towns and villages, preaching and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom of God. He took His twelve disciples with him, along with some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases.

Luke 8:4-15 “One day Jesus told a story in the form of a parable to a large crowd that had gathered from many towns to hear Him: ‎ “A farmer went out to plant his seed. As he scattered it across his field, some seed fell on a footpath, where it was stepped on, and the birds ate it. ‎

Other seed fell among rocks. It began to grow, but the plant soon wilted and died for lack of moisture. ‎ Other seed fell among thorns that grew up with it and choked out the tender plants. ‎

“Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand.” ‎ Still other seed fell on fertile soil. This seed grew and produced a crop that was a hundred times as much as had been planted!” When He had said this, He called out, “Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand.” ‎

His disciples asked Him what this parable meant. ‎He replied, “You are permitted to understand the secrets (mysteries) of the Kingdom of God. But I use parables to teach the others so that the Scriptures might be fulfilled: ‘When they look, they won’t really see. When they hear, they won’t understand.’ ‎

Matthew 13:13-15 "Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. "And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says: 'Hearing you will hear and shall not understand, And seeing you will see and not perceive;

Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, 15 For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.'”

“This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is God’s word. ‎ Luke 8:11-12 “This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is God’s word. ‎ The seeds that fell on the footpath represent those who hear the message, only to have the devil come and take it away from their hearts and prevent them from believing and being saved. ‎

The seeds on the rocky soil represent those who hear the message and receive it with joy. But since they don’t have deep roots, they believe for a while, then they fall away when they face temptation. ‎

And so they never grow into maturity. ‎ 14 The seeds that fell among the thorns represent those who hear the message, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the cares and riches and pleasures of this life. And so they never grow into maturity. ‎

produce a huge harvest.” 15 And the seeds that fell on the good soil represent honest, good-hearted people who hear God’s word, cling to it, and patiently produce a huge harvest.”

Hebrews 2:1 “Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away.”

But for those who are not listening, even what they think “So pay attention to how you hear. To those who listen to My teaching, more understanding will be given. But for those who are not listening, even what they think they understand will be taken away from them.”
