Bread for the World Sunday Today, we join thousands of other Christians across the country as we lift up our voices on behalf of hungry people. Through prayer, education and advocacy, we commit ourselves to the fight against hunger and poverty in our country and around the world.

Did you Know? One child dies every five seconds from hunger-related causes. In the U.S., 1 in 6 children lives in a family that struggles with hunger. Nearly 800 million people in the world are still hungry.

God’s Heart to Help Hungry People Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of injustice, to undo the thongs of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry? - Isaiah 58:6-7a

God’s Heart to Help Hungry People Jesus said to them, “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.”   —Matthew 25:35-36

Milestones to Ending Hunger Tremendous progress has been made in improving nutrition for women and young children, and also helping farmers in developing countries grow more food for their families. In the U.S., school meals and SNAP (formerly known as food stamps) have helped children of all ages, veterans, and the elderly. More children, especially girls, are going to school in Africa and elsewhere.

Bread for the World’s Mission Bread for the World is a collective Christian voice urging our nation’s decision makers to end hunger at home and abroad. Bread equips and inspires its members to call, meet, and write personal letters to their members of Congress on hunger and poverty issues.
