amazing By Aerosmith

I kept the right ones out

And let the wrong ones in

Had an angel of mercy to see me through all my sins

There were times in my life, when I was going insane

Tryin’ to walk through the pain

When I lost my grip

And I hit the floor

Yeah, I thought I could live, but couldn’t get out the door

I was so sick and tired of livin’ a lie

I was wishin’ that I would die

It’s amazing, with the blink of an eye, you finally see the light

It’s amazing, when the moment arrives that you know you’ll be alright

It’s amazing, and I’m sayin’ a prayer for the desperate hearts tonight

That one last shot’s a permanent vacation

And how high can you fly with broken wings?

Life’s a journey, not a destination

And I just can’t tell just what tomorrow brings

You have to learn to crawl, before you learn to walk

But I just couldn’t listen to all that righteous talk, oh yeah

I was out on the street, just tryin’ to survive

Scratchin’ to stay alive

It’s amazing, with the blink of an eye, you finally see the light

It’s amazing, when the moment arrives that you know you’ll be alright

Oh, it’s amazing and I’m sayin’ a prayer for the desperate hearts tonight

Desperate hearts, desperate hearts

The Author Aerosmith Band popular in the 1980’s – 1990’s Written by Steven Tyler (lead singer) Song was released in 1993

What is the song/poem about? In this song, we learn the story of a man who had lost hope for his life and did not want to live anymore until something occurred and changed his point of view, making him realize that life is an amazing thing and giving him a positive outlook on life.

Diction From words such as insane, pain, desperate and amazing, we can tell that this poem is very serious and deep. The author chose words, such as the ones mentioned above to give the reader (or listener) a much more intense feeling than if he had used a less serious vocabulary.

Rhythmical Devices - the basic line length of the poem/song is 5-7 words long - the length of the stanza is 14 for the first verse 7 for second verse and 6 for the chorus -the rhyme scheme for the poem is aabcdfd - the author uses many metrical devices - the form that the poem/song takes on is closed because there is a rhyme scheme

Literary Devices The author does uses metaphors multiple times, no similes, some symbolism etc) desperate hearts, some imagery etc) that last shots a permanent vacation and how high can you fly with broken wings?, no overstatements for punctuation there were 3 hyphens and a question mark Yes the title is really good, it works for the song/poem because it gives an idea of what the song is going to be about

Values of the Poem Yes, the author succeeds in recreating an experience with the reader. He does this by singing greatly, he uses many poetic devices in his work as well as a rhyming scheme It is a song that is felt strongly by the audience

Analyzing Poetry Shift, the song/poem changes from verse to chorus, it is a change from the way it is read from dark to upbeat My interpretation of the song is about how he hit rock bottom and just isn't happy so the song is his rise from the bottom
