The University has made remarkable progress so far towards its aim of being one of the world’s top 25 universities by 2015. In the 2008 Shanghai Jiao Tong Ranking of the World’s Top 500 Universities, Manchester is placed 40th in the world, moving up the ranking by eight places in just one year, more than any other University in the top 100. The University consistently registers more intellectual The University has generated more than 100 spin-out companies and has concluded more than 100 technology licences Our incubator space has a capacity of more than 180,000 square feet There has been substantial third party investment and grants into our spin-out companies. The University’s IP Projects and spin-out companies have won many prizes and professional recognition awards. The University established Europe’s largest dedicated spin-out Seed Fund in 2008 (The UMIP Premier Fund) with value of £32m. Transitive, one of our spin-out companies and a world leader in enabling software to run on any platform, was aquired by IBM in November 2008. The University consistently registers more intellectual property (IP) and invention disclosures than almost any other UK University.
