The library will be transformed into a pirate’s landing area. The students will visit the book fair to purchase quality and inexpensive books to enjoy. On Thursday of the bookfair week the parents will be invited to various activities for literacy night. 11-9 Literacy Night/Fall Festival The bookfair will be opened late and we will have a guest speaker Ruby the pirate Queen will visit our bookfair to promote reading by reading aloud to our students. The whole school will also participate by having a fall festival during our literacy night.

Guzman Elementary Month of November Native American Heritage Month Traveling Trunk Nov. 14-18th Library Lessons/Activities: History of Native Americans Famous Native American   Indians of South Texas Traveling Trunk Celebrating the “rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native people.” We will feature a traveling trunk from the Museum of South Texas in Edinburg which includes regalia about Native Americans Picture Book Month Activities: Book Displays of picture books In order to celebrate printed picture books, library staff will be featuring some of the best picture books published. This will help promote authors and illustrators; and introduce some of the awards associated with picture books. Nov. 4 Top Reader Celebration Activity: Celebration in the Library Students who have been designated at Top Readers for the 1st Six weeks will be rewarded by participating in the Top Reader Celebration Day. Top Readers are selected based on AR points, i-Station scores, and teacher recommendations. Nov. 8 Project Vote 4 Activity: Mock Presidential Election Campus will host a mock presidential election to show students the election process; and encourage them to be active in their local communities. Nov. 15 Literacy Night Promoting Literacy within the Community Library staff, teachers, host a literacy night that allows parents and students to participate in Read Alouds, crafts, and activities correlated to the campus curriculum and focuses on science, reading, math, etc.

Instill the importance of voting and civil responsibilities, and bring awareness of what presidents do for our country and how they are elected to office. Nov. 7-Nov. 11 Veterans Day Exhibit and Meet and Greet Students will be able to visit an exhibit displaying veteran’s regalia and talk to veterans from our community. They will have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A presented by veterans. Nov. 1-Nov. 30 Celebrate the Season: Autumn and Fall Holiday Displays Book display of Autumn, Halloween, Day of the Dead, Election Day, Veteran’s Day, and Thanksgiving Book display and promotion will create awareness of the season and holidays/important days being celebrated during this time of the year. It also allows students to see the patterns followed as the months go by and seasons change. Nov. 7-18 Being Thankful Holiday awareness.   Students will learn about Thanksgiving and related activities that are celebrated in the U.S. Nov. 18-Nov. 30 Preview Rene Colato’s Books Meeting and learning about authors. Students will learn about the life of Rene Colato and the books he has written. Rene Colato will be visiting our school in December.

Nov 14 –Nov 18 Genre Book Bingo Activities: Students will be invited to play book genre bingo. To promote different genres, the library will pass out genre bingo cards. Students who fill out their card to be entered into a drawing. Nov 1- Nov 18 Candy Corn Guessing Game   Activities: Guessing Jar Student will be invited to take a guess of our candy jar. Celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens who are Native Americans.  Nov. 1 - 4 Do your part VOTE   Activity: Students will take part in the voting process. The student at Salazar Elementary will come to the library to vote for the next United Sates President. The student will listen to a brief article on both candidates and then be given time to take a ballot and vote. Nov. 7 Gaming in the library Activity: Students who have met or exceeded their AR goals come for gaming day. Gaming in the library is for student who have met or exceeded the District Goal for the 2nd six weeks. They come during their designated time to compete in board games, video games and create at a variety of maker space projects. Nov. 7-Nov. 11 National Young Readers Week Activity: Principal Chavez will read her heart out as she reads to students through one day of the week.   Pizza Hut and the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress have partnered up to raise awareness on how reading is important. They have posed a challenge to all principals across the country to become shining examples for literacy. One day out of the week the principal will read all day to all the children on campus. Nov. 14 – Nov. 18 A trip to a new land Activity: Reader’s Theater The students throughout the week will participate in reading and viewing informational stories about Thanksgiving. They will have an opportunity to perform in front of their peers and they learn about one of the National Holidays. Nov. 1-18 Guessing Jar  Activity: Estimation game for all students to participate. Just for fun: A jar with goodies is displayed in the library monthly and carries on a holiday theme. Students are allowed to guess how many goodies are in the jar. At the end of the month, the student with the correct or closest amount wins the jar with the goodies.

Information including trivia questions like the biggest stitched and the smallest stitched bear, the most popular bears, etc. The students can also read to their teddy bears. 11/11 Veteran’s Day Program  Community Involvement We will conduct our annual Veteran’s Day Program. We will invite our community veterans to attend. The students will provide entertainment. 11/12 Saturday A.R. Camp Community Involvement    Parents and students visit the Price library to read and take tests on the Accelerated Reader Program. 11/28 Coloring Contest We will kick off the coloring contest this week. Students will compete in coloring contest.
