The Respiratory System. What is the Purpose? The respiratory system allows oxygen to enter the blood and carbon dioxide to exit the blood. We would not.

Respiration in human beings Science fifth grade

HAVE YOU THOUGHT HOW FALCAO OR JAMES PLAY? WHAT DO THEY NEED?

They need oxygen, they need to feed and getting energy, from substances such as glucose. During the aerobic respiration, carbon dioxide is produced as a waste product and must be removed from the cell

All of these organs are necessary for breathing

Lungs obtain oxygen from the atmosphere and release excess carbon dioxide.

This branching network of tubes is lined with cilia (this protects the lungs from foreign particles, when people smoke cilia are paralyzed, allowing particles to irritate the lungs) and a layer of protectie mucus.

The smallest of these tubes lead into alveoli. Gases enter and leave the circulatory system through the alveoli, each alveolius is surrounded by capillary beds, the capillary´s blood picks up oxygen from the alveoliand releases carbon dioxide to be exhaled

HOW MANY ALVEOLI HAS EACH LUNG? 100 MILLION 320 MILLION 150 MILLION RESPIRATORY TRIVIA!!! HOW MANY ALVEOLI HAS EACH LUNG? 100 MILLION 320 MILLION 150 MILLION

150 MILLION!!!

It´s time to watch an interesting video!!

ACTIVITIES!!! Trachea – lungs – diaphragm- alveoli – bronchioles – nasal cavity – Larynx pharynx LABEL THE FOLLOWING DIAGRAM WITH THE NEXT WORDS:

Now that you can identify what part is each one, let´s talk about each function.

FUNCTIONS

Let´s check what INHALATION is…

INHALATION: Breathing begins with the diaphgram, the dome-shaped muscle below the chest cavity, it contracts and moves downward. The muscles between the ribs also contract, causing the rib cage to move up and out.

Together , these these muscle contractions cause the chest cavity to enlarge, when the chest expands the air pressure in the chest cavity drops.

Air pressure outside the body is then greater than that inside the chest, causing air to rush into the lungs to equalize the pressure.

Exhlation: when the air pressure inside the lungs is equal to the air pressureoutside the lungs, the muscles relax and return to the the original position.

This movement in turn , reduces the size of the chest cavity.

As the chest cavity decreases, the air pressure inside the chest cavity gradually becomes greater than the air pressure.

In some words is..…

Finally, don´t forget this…right Finally, don´t forget this…right? Gas Exchange Between the Blood and Alveoli
