The ONLY bookstore owned and operated by East Carolina University Dowdy Student Stores The ONLY bookstore owned and operated by East Carolina University

We’re your headquarters for: New, used, and rental textbooks and course materials • technology hardware & software • school & art supplies • Pirate apparel & merchandise • Graduation regalia and related products

Where we’re located Wright Building – the heart of East Carolina’s main campus! Our main entrance doors are located on the south side of Wright Building. We also have a Health Sciences Bookstore on the first floor of the Brody Building that serves the Brody School of Medicine and Health Sciences Campus.

Your source for textbooks! Large selection of NEW, USED & RENTAL textbooks We also have other course materials: study guides, lab manuals and course packs

Textbook Rentals Many titles now available, both in the store and online (title availability and pricing varies both in store and online). Very popular way for students to acquire their books and course materials that’s not as expensive as buying them. Approximately 50% cheaper than new book prices. Up front cost savings. Highlighting and marking in our rental books are permitted, just don’t overdo it. Just return your rentals before the deadline date to avoid replacement cost fees.

Tips/Suggestions When Renting Books From Dowdy Not all rental books will have a rental sticker or mark on book showing it’s a rental. TIP: Make mark on inside front cover that: 1) it’s a rental; 2) where you rented it from (Dowdy, Chegg, etc.); and 3) rental due date. Do not sell back the rental book. TIP: Check your receipt or with our store first to see if it’s a rental and before you sell it back. Dowdy also posts courtesy signs in our store and sends out email reminders about rental return deadline dates.

Tips/Suggestions When Renting Books From Dowdy TIP: When setting up your rental account, use an email address that is correct and will be checked regularly since courtesy rental due date reminders, etc. may be sent via email. PARENT TIP: If you ordered the books for your child/student, please be sure to fully communicate with the student that it’s a rental book, where it was rented from, and due date to return it by. This is so the student will not sell it back. When it’s sold back, it’s too late to get it back and all book buyback transactions are final.

Purchase your textbooks in the store or order online for your convenience! Either way, you can select new, used or rental books, and you can pick up in our store or have shipped to non-store address!

How to order online Go to the Dowdy website at www.ecu.edu/studentstores and select “Textbooks” under “Online Shopping” Select “Order Online” to buy books directly from Dowdy Student Stores; or select “Compare” to visit our price comparison site to purchase or rent (including e-books). If ordering directly from Dowdy Student Stores, find your courses based on your class schedule, select which books you want to purchase for those courses, add to your shopping cart, and then “LOG IN” and enter your ECU Pirate ID and passphrase. Complete check-out process until the order is placed.

Dowdy Student Stores offers a generous book refund service each semester when specific requirements are met: FALL & SPRING SEMESTERS: Full refunds or exchanges on textbooks purchased or rented in store within first 10 days that classes begin; 30 days after first day classes begin for dropped courses. No refunds or exchanges allowed toward the end of that semester. SUMMER SESSIONS: Full refunds or exchanges on textbooks purchased or rented in store within first 5 days that classes begin; 10 days after first day classes begin for dropped courses. OTHER GENERAL REQUIREMENTS & INFORMATION: Original purchase/rental receipt is required for any refund or exchange. The condition of the book must be the same as when purchased, such as access codes unopened, lab manuals have no writing in them nor pages torn out, etc. See our website link at http://www.ecu.edu/cs-admin/studentstores/Textbooks/Refunds.cfm for our full textbook refund information.

Digital Textbooks (aka E-books) E-books can save up to 50% and are available through Dowdy Student Stores’ website (Compare site). Most e-books come in two formats: online and downloadable. The key difference in the two is how you access the content. The online version can be accessed from any computer. The downloadable version is only accessible on one computer.

Book Buyback (Non-rental Books) Throughout the year, sell your non-rental textbooks back to us! This gives you extra cash and provides our store a larger used and rental textbook selection for the next semester. Most students sell their non-rental books back at the end of the semester.
