History of Space Food The astronauts had squeeze tubes with their food inside and had bite-sized cubes covered with gelatin to reduce crumbling Freeze-dried food was put in special containers Added hot water to rehydrate the food which made the food taste better Space allowed them to have a dining room and table Footholds would allow them to situate themselves around the table and “sit” and eat
Preparation Food is prepared in the Galley installed to the orbiter’s mid-deck The Galley contains a faucet and an oven The food in space is cooked faster with a convection oven The food is contained in bags to preserve it Packages of food is stored in locker trays months before the launch
Breakfast Granola with raisins (r) Grey Tea Breakfast Roll (t) Powdered Milk (every meal) Dried fruit in plastic bags Hot cereal, and oat meal Cream cheese Sour cream

Dessert Candy/canes, and chocolate bars in plastics bags (and other chocolate candies) Cookies Chocolate matza
Greenhouses Tomatoes, lettuce, spinach, carrots, strawberries and peppers potatoes, wheat, soybeans, peanuts and rice, are picked and eaten These fruits and vegetables are grown on the ship
