1 2 AGENDA Vision for UIT Cloud Transformation Program We know the timeframe for this program is very ambitious, which is exactly what UIT and Stanford need Vision for UIT Cloud Transformation Program Current and Future State 1 Approach and Timeframe Measurable Goals 2

QUICK PROVISIONING EXPECTED MORE QUICKLY AVAILABLE WHY CLOUD AND WHY NOW? EARTHQUAKE DANGER IS REAL Heightened disaster risk in SF Bay Area Essential to ensure continued operations and protection of critical data assets Geo-diversity is a critical aspect of BC/DR plans CAMPUS SPACE IS AT A PREMIUM Priority use is in direct support of teaching, learning, and research Imperative to support growth of computing without increase in physical footprint of administrative data centers QUICK PROVISIONING EXPECTED UIT has achieved recent gains Clients expect nearly instantaneous provisioning COMPUTING RESOURCES EASILY SCALE Resources can scale up during critical business times Resources can scale down when not in use to save money NEW FEATURES AND FUNCTIONS MORE QUICKLY AVAILABLE Cloud vendors continuously improve functionality Cloud solutions introduce new features more quickly

VISION FOR UIT CLOUD TRANSFORMATION PROGRAM FUTURE STATE UIT pursues an enterprise cloud strategy that shifts most of our service portfolio to cloud-based products and cloud-hosted deployments By 2019, UIT has a cohesive and integrated cloud-based portfolio of services HOW WE WILL GET THERE STRATEGIC VISION AND PLANNING PORTFOLIO ANALYSIS AND GOVERNANCE ORGANIZATIONAL ASSESSMENT AND DEVELOPMENT CLOUD TRANSITION AND EXECUTION CURRENT STATE | UIT opportunistically acquires cloud products and services

QUALITATIVE GOALS FOR UIT CLOUD TRANSFORMATION FUTURE STATE | By 2019, UIT has a cohesive and integrated cloud-based portfolio of services A client interface with a seamless service catalog of robust solutions Strategically selected and well managed vendor partnerships An expert workforce with cloud technology and practices Inherent security and privacy controls commensurate with the risk profile of the business need Automated improvements with no service disruption, auto-scaling capabilities, resilient deployments by service level and by system design CURRENT STATE

MEASURABLE GOALS FOR UIT CLOUD TRANSFORMATION Perform cloud governance and portfolio management UIT will develop a cloud portfolio strategy supported by a cloud advisory and governance process (April 2017) GOAL 2 Define organizational development program Update roles, skills, competencies for UIT staff associated with cloud solutions to reflect cloud-related service and technology expertise required to achieve the University IT vision and goals (December 2018) GOAL 3 Integrate key cloud systems, processes, and services UIT will integrate the cloud-source lifecycle from sourcing through acquisition and billing into its enterprise vendor management, procurement, and billing systems (December 2018) GOAL 4 Reduce on-campus footprint of UIT-owned systems by 50% UIT-owned systems will reduce their campus power consumption related to non-research computing by 50% over 2015 consumption (December 2019) GOAL 5 Run critical enterprise applications and services in the cloud Cloud-source new systems and software deployments; current UIT-owned and operated critical enterprise campus software applications will have detailed project schedules to not be exclusively hosted on campus (December 2019) GOAL 6 Exit Livermore disaster recovery site Redesign disaster recovery and business continuity to leverage cloud-hosting and related services; have a detailed project schedule for exiting the Livermore site (December 2019)
